Would you hand over your password for a chocolate bar?

We all love chocolate, or most of us do. But no matter how much you love the stuff would you give a total stranger your name, contact number and computer password for a chocolate bar? Surely not.

I found this item from TVNZ's 'CloseUp' to be quite alarming, even though some of the people who were stopped gave fake passwords.  The list of the top 50 most common passwords internationally, is quite shocking as well!

The security conscious who use the internet can breathe a sigh of relief now that software has been developed that can make information you post on the internet (including e-mails, social messaging posts and chat messages) become unreadable after a set period of time.  You highlight the text you want to be turned into gibberish, activate the "Vanish" Firefox extention and text will become unreadable after a set period of time.  It works in a very similar way to e-mail encryption in that both the sender/poster and the recipiant have to have the software installed.

I can see that itr has the potential to be a very useful tool, with parties wanting information to be kept private, being able to exchange the information thay need, withouut the fear that the information will be intercepted.

The University of Washington has developed a way to make such information expire. After a set time period, electronic communications such as e-mail, Facebook posts and chat messages would automatically self-destruct, becoming irretrievable from all Web sites, inboxes, outboxes, backup sites and home computers. Not even the sender could retrieve them.
