2010: What will this new year hold?

It is now 2010. For me it is amazing how fast the first decade of the 21st Century has flown by. Here are my thoughts for the developments that will shape the coming year.

Facebook and Twitter will remain strong as the social networking platforms of choice.
The use of e-books will continue to rise, thanks to the Kindle, and other devices coming on the market such as the Nook from Barnes and Noble.
In the US the healthcare bill will be passed.
Afghanistan will become the focus of the US military once again, and rumblings will continue to come from Iran.

While here in NZ John Key will remain the puppet to the puppet-masters behind the scenes, who will seek to slowly erode what the previous government had put in place.

One final note: I hope that, for Auckland's sake, John Banks does not get elected as mayor of the Auckland super city. It will all come down to who has the deepest coffers!

Saw the tralier for James Cameron's new film 'Avatar' and really like the look of it. The story is set in the future, and is centered around a paralysed soldier who gets the chance to walk again thnanks to a neural link with a genetically enginnered 'Avatar.' Once connected, he gets the chance to explore a rainforest covered extraterrestrial moon as a forward scout for a military force sent to extract minerals. He then falls in love with one of the native aliens (the Na'vi) and becomes confilicted over his actial mission.

We all love chocolate, or most of us do. But no matter how much you love the stuff would you give a total stranger your name, contact number and computer password for a chocolate bar? Surely not.

I found this item from TVNZ's 'CloseUp' to be quite alarming, even though some of the people who were stopped gave fake passwords. The list of the top 50 most common passwords internationally, is quite shocking as well!

HBO'S 'FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS' racked up six Emmy nominations for its second season, including nods for writing, directing, acting, music and general comedy excellence. One thing the show did not get acknowledged for was its costuming. Sure, the wardrobe on "The Tudors" probably took a bit more ...

I think this is a fun article to read, especially from a NZers point of view.

Story about the Big Night In Telethon. The first telethon in 15 years.

From Saturday at 7pm to Sunday at 6pm TV3 held the first telethon NZ had seen in 15 years, raising $1,944,225 for the KidsCan charitable trust, which is involved in supporting children living in poverty.

Overall it was a lot of fun, with TV3 personalities, NZ celebrities, and a few Aussies thrown into the mix as well.

I totally support the cause and am glad that so much money was raised. Here is the highlights reel that was played at the end of the event.

My sister's back in the country!

I'm very glad, as my sister Elizabeth is back in NZ (albiet for a very short time). Currently she is touring around to Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch playing at the university music schools with the Ensemble Selisih. Afterwards, she is going to stay here for a time after the rest of the group leaves.

Upbeat - Dieter Mack and Elizabeth Farrell

Not long enough though.

Elizabeth has already been featured on Radio NZ's Concert FM programme, Upbeat, and the group she is a part of received a good review from the NZ Herald.
